ON THE BRIDGE

July 2008

“ON THE BRIDGE”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Bob and Jerid Collins and Dylan Kerekes for the recent loss of Betty Collins, their mother and grandmother, respectively. Our sincere condolences go out to Aaron Maison and his family for the passing of his grandmother, Dolores. May their souls rest in eternal peace.

Under Doctor’s Care: Ray Hmelewski, Tom Nagy, Chad Whiting, Raye Mitz, Loretta Lively (Leon’s wife), Dale Miller Jr., Keith Steiner, Chuck George, Steve Bartha, Don Manoylovich, Jimmy Blaze, Tony Ames, Bobby Nickles, Russ Johnson, and Kylee Blaze. Here’s a “get well” wish to all sick and disabled.

Congratulations to all of the candidates for actively participating in this year’s election, especially to those members who exercised their “right to vote”. Your newly elected officers of Local #55 are: Business Manager/Financial Secretary-Treasurer: Joe Blaze II, President: Chris Kolbe, Business Agent: Joe Blaze III, Vice President: Maurice Martin, Recording Secretary: Phil Gluza, Executive Committee: Val Miller, Terry Keeler, Gary Dawson, Rob Blaze, Rob Tatro III, Trustees: Bob Carey, Dan Bunce, Gus Spanoudis, Conductor: Pete Kunz, Examining Committee: Joe Komorowski and Chuck Imber.

Now that the campaigning is over, we need to get back together and work for our common goal: the betterment of Local #55.

I appointed Chris Kolbe as a Field Agent to work along side Joe Blaze III. Together they are responsible for policing our entire jurisdiction. Therefore, if you have a jobsite issue, please contact either Joe (419-283-0293) or Chris (419-787-1802).

Ironworkers Picnic – Get your postcards in as soon as possible; we need to get an accurate count of attendees, children and grandchildren included.

Congratulations to Katie Lee Meusling and Derek Bluth who are this year’s recipients of Local #55’s $2,000 college scholarships. Katie Lee is the daughter of Local #55 member Don Meusling; she will be attending Cornell University this fall. Derek is the son of Local #55 member Todd Bluth, and he will be attending Kettering University in the fall. Congratulations to you both, once again, for such outstanding achievement.

Happy anniversary to Leon and Loretta Lively who will celebrate 31 years of wedded bliss on July 16th!

Welding Certification Tests (SMAW) are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month. In order to test, you need to contact Dee Dee (give her your potentially refundable deposit) to get on the list. Space is limited, so reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Alert – Cell phone use while you’re driving your car or while you’re working on a construction site is dangerous. Local #55 does not promote such use unless it’s an emergency. According to a recent American Survey, approximately 300,000 auto accidents are caused by cell phone use. Construction work is dangerous enough, you don’t need another distraction, like cell phones or earphones or ipods. Just think, 15 years ago this subject wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion.

                                                                                                Thank you and God bless,

                                                                                                Joe Blaze
